Bel-Jon joined the Greek Army when he returned from France.  He was
badly wounded in the leg and was returned to Athens to recuperate.  He
would receive a military pension until he later became a US citizen.

He never fully regained strength in that leg which bothered him for the
rest of his life.  Bel-Jon was always a sensitive person and his time in the
war left him nervous and anxious.  He began to have problems with his
stomach and teeth that also followed him throughout his life.  He was
always seen drinking some kind of antacid concoctions.
